چکیده
Abstract. We present a record of melt events obtained from the East Greenland Ice Core Project (EastGRIP) ice core in central northeastern Greenland, covering largest part Holocene. The data were acquired visually using an optical dark-field line scanner. detect and describe layers lenses, seen as bubble-free throughout above bubble–clathrate transition. This transition is located at 1150 m depth EastGRIP core, corresponding to age 9720 years b2k. define brittle zone that 650 950 depth, where we count on average more than three breaks per meter. analyze layer thicknesses, correct for thinning, account missing due breaks. Our shows large, distinct peak around 1014 b2k (986 CE) broad 7000 b2k, Holocene Climatic Optimum. In total, can identify approximately 831 mm (corrected thinning) over past 10 000 years. find event 986 CE most likely large rain similar 2012 CE, these two are unprecedented also compare recent 2500 tree ring composite overlap between anomalies indicating warm summers. Greenland ice sheet melt from MODIS and associated atmospheric variability
Daily June-July melt fraction variations over the Greenland ice sheet (GIS) derived from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) (2000-2013) are associated with atmospheric blocking forming an omega-shape ridge over the GIS at 500 hPa height. Blocking activity with a range of time scales, from synoptic waves breaking poleward (<5 days) to full-fledged blocks (≥5 days), brings ...

Three ice cores to bedrock from the Dunde ice cap on the north-central QinghaiTibetan Plateau ofChina provide a detailed record of Holocene and Wisconsin-Wurm late glacial stage (LGS) climate changes in the subtropics. The records reveal that LGS conditions were apparently colder, wetter, and dustier than Holocene conditions. The LGS part of the cores is characterized by more negative 8180 rati...
متن کاملSurface melt-induced acceleration of Greenland ice-sheet flow.
Ice flow at a location in the equilibrium zone of the west-central Greenland Ice Sheet accelerates above the midwinter average rate during periods of summer melting. The near coincidence of the ice acceleration with the duration of surface melting, followed by deceleration after the melting ceases, indicates that glacial sliding is enhanced by rapid migration of surface meltwater to the ice-bed...

A suite of spatially distributed, multi-century cores collected since 1995 under NASA's Program for Arctic Regional Climate Assessment (PARCA) provides an excellent archive of volcanic emissions reaching Greenland. As records of equiv alent quality from higher accumulation sites in Antarctica become available, their integration will produce a richer, better temporally constrained and more clim...
